About us
With loads of exciting things to see and do at Hazlewood Castle, there's bound to be something that takes your fancy.
From the thrills of quad biking and axe throwing to relaxing and pampering in Imagine Spa your stay with us can be whatever you want to make it.
Within easy reach are the Yorkshire Dales and Moors national parks, the cosmopolitan city of Leeds, and historic York for your retail therapy and hiking needs. Why not visit the Sam Smiths brewery or York races both are just a stone's throw away.
The Castle itself dates back as far as 1086 when it is first mentioned in the Domesday book, since then the hotel has had many different uses including a maternity hospital during the war, Carmelite monks retreat and the family home of the Vavasours. There is plenty of history to soak up and a tour with one of our knowledgeable guides is just the ticket to delve into the rich past of the Castle.
Ashdale Hotels
Hazlewood Castle is part of Ashdale Hotels a small group of grade listed hotels and spas.
The story so far...
It all began when on a beach in Sydney in 1998 an old school friend buried my wallet in the sand!
This peculiarity was further compounded by his promise that whatever money I had to buy a hotel he would match.
True to his word in October 2004 we bought the Kings Head Hotel, Richmond, North Yorkshire (in fact my wife Jo found it!) a hotel so full of character and characters
that we knew this was for us.
The group grew a little over the years, mainly thanks to the returning guests and we bought the beautifully restored Angel & Royal "the oldest Inn in England" the Queen Anne Dower House,
Hazlewood Castle (a real castle) and Grants hotel, all grade I & ll listed buildings of great historic importance
Two other additions for you to enjoy are our Imagine Spas which epitomise elegance and luxury.
We have since sold the Kings Head, restored Grants Hotel to its original stunning terraced houses, and more recently sold the Angel and Royal during the lockdown.
Our remaining Castle, hotel, outdoor activity centre and spa continue to offer our famous friendly service in the heart of Yorkshire.
We all enjoy working in such style as there is something very rewarding both for the staff and guests alike
